Diving In To Service Page SEO. . .

What Is A Service Page?

So, what is a service page and why should you care about optimizing or creating them? A service page is part of a company website and as the name suggests it’s the pages of your website where you showcase your expertise or services to your customers.

Picture it as the digital storefront of your online business. These pages explain your services and should almost always include a call to action usually seen in the basic form of a free service quote.

Basically, it’s the page your customer will use to pay you for your services. So if our looking to make more sales or generate more leads, then understanding how to optimize your service pages correctly will help place your pages where you customers can actually find you. And that’s right on the top of the search results page.

Pro Tips: Pages can easily be confused with posts especially working in WordPress. Make sure to create static pages for the company such as about pages and service pages. Posts like the one your reading now are created or posted more frequently. They are usually centered more on solving problems and answering questions. Posts make up your companies blog and help generate traffic. Google Business Profile And Your Local Service Pages

We will split this into two parts

  • Google Business Profile formerly called Google My Business (GMB)

  • Your service or local service pages

Setting Up Your Google Business Profile

If you are a local business, service area business or a hybrid you will need to set up a Google Business Profile. After you have claimed and verified your company profile you’ll want to make sure it’s 100 percent completed with the most accurate information. Make sure you follow Google Business Profile Guidelines.

Your company name, address, phone or (NAP) as well as your company website is very important to get right here. It would be smart to copy and paste your NAP EXACTLY as you have it listed on your main Google Business Profile and save it as a text file somewhere handy. We will need this later for directories and this is where costly mistakes can be made if not done in a certain way.

Be sure to add your company logo and some high quality images of your location and workplace. Adding accurate business hours, service areas and selecting the correct business category will help to improve your rankings in the map section. But there’s still a lot to do.

You should already have a keyword rich description with your products and services added to the profile if you filled it out 100 percent. Explain what sets you apart from the competition in the description. Be ready to keep this profile up to date by posting pictures, about events or new products and services regularly.

You may want to hire this ongoing part out to a social media marketing service especially if you manage multi locations. Google Business Profiles with steady glowing reviews can expect to get an increase in rankings too. Make sure they are real reviews from real customers. You will want to respond to these reviews and any questions on your business profile. Now that you have a verified profile that’s set up completely your going to want to find that text file with your name, address and phone (NAP) so you can start listing yourself in local directories.

Here’s the part you want to get right along with a steady stream of high quality reviews and it’s getting your NAP listed in directories exactly as it is listed your Google profile. Most people will go with Yelp or Yellow Pages and stop. But here’s the catch, there are only 3 spots in the organic maps section of the search engine results page and you’ll want one. We are specifically taking about local map rankings here and I’m going to share with you how to get one of those top 3 spots as well as some extra organic referral traffic from some of the largest local search engines.

First, you’ll want to make sure that when you add your listings they are copied and pasted from the text file you made exactly the way you have them on your Google Business Profile. Yes, I repeated myself again on this one. Duplicates and inaccurate information will only serve to hurt your efforts. If you want to really stand out there are 3 main directory sites you’ll want to be listed on.

  • 1
    National Directories
  • 2

    Local Directories

  • 3

    Niche Specific Directories

So now you know what you need but how do you find these directories? Start out with national directories. These theses are the industry giants like Yelp, Yellow Pages, Facebook Pages etc. Anywhere that allows you to add your company name, address and phone number at minimum because some of these profiles will allow a link to your website and or other profiles too.

The more of these profiles listing your Nap, the more “authority” you will have and as you gain more of them, you’re position in Google Maps should rise. Any directory we add our NAP to is called a “local citation” and you want as many local citations as you can. Think of them as a votes for your business along with your reviews.

To start, try popping one of your top ranking competitors in a Google search and see what directories Google has them indexed in. We can add these to our target list of sites we need to get listed on. Next, lets try to find some local directories for our target list. This is what will set us ahead even further. Try [your-location] [business directories] and you’ll most likely see local Chamber Of Commerce pages. Scroll a bit more and you should be able to find some local directory gems you can add to your main list.

So now we have main directories and local directories as well as the ones added from spying on the current competition, we can look for niche-specific directories. What’s meant by niche specific just means your specific service or niche. So if your a home remodeling company you may search for “directories for home improvement companies” and see what pops up. For this example, it would make sense for a home improvement company to add themselves to niche-specific services or apps like HomeAdvisor or Angi formerly known as AngiesList.

Rinse and repeat a few times and you should have a pretty intimidating list. These directories will help your rankings for your Google Business Profile but serve many other purposes as well. Referral traffic to your profile and or website from being listed on these sites will grow over time. You can measure which channels are sending you the most traffic to your main website using Google Analytics.

Make sure your name, address and phone number is listed the same way on your company website. And if you need help with these listings, services like BrightLocal Citation Builder and Whitespark’s listing Builder will manage and measure results for you. Following these tips and tricks you should be ranking in Google Maps and sending extra traffic to your service pages in no time!
